Saqib joined the Mayor of the West Midlands, Andy Street, at an ‘Ask Andy’ event at Knowle Village Hall. The event convened residents from across the Solihull borough who were able to ask the mayor questions about local issues. Andy was joined by Dame Caroline Spelman who chaired the discussion and was supported by both Saqib and Ian Courts, Leader of Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council, who were able to comment on issues within their purview. Various topics were discussed, including housing, environmental protections, healthcare, transport, policing and tackling poverty; with Andy setting out his approach for the West Midlands regarding each issue. Attendees also heard Andy’s overall vision for the region and how he hopes to achieve this.
Following the event Andy and Saqib visited Knowle precinct to discuss the strategy for the area and what needs to be done to turn the precinct into a thriving community hub. The plan for the precinct is to redevelop the area, making it a vibrant hub for people to live, shop and meet. Both Andy and Saqib have campaigned on this issue and have worked tirelessly to advocate for the community, to make sure they get the most favourable outcome possible.
