Saqib appeared on BBC Politics Midlands on Sunday morning to talk about the recent transport funding announced for the West Midlands.
While any investment is welcome, The Government needs to be honest: Labour’s offer is £250 million less than what was committed under the Conservative Government.
That’s a huge difference – and it means fewer upgrades, slower progress, and missed opportunities for our region.
Saqib commented "The West Midlands Rail Hub also remains underfunded by £1.75 billion – and Labour still haven’t provided any updates on how or when this vital funding will be secured.
This is a project that could transform our region’s transport network, boost our economy, and create numerous jobs. The Conservative government recognised its importance and backed it – but now we’re left with silence from Labour. They will blame black holes but the only black hole is the one Rachel Reeves has created with billions of taxpayers money paying off trade unions and projects that won’t deliver economic growth.
Under the leadership of Andy Street, we prioritised major infrastructure projects and backed the West Midlands with real investment. Now, we’re seeing promises that don’t match up to the scale of what’s needed – or what was already pledged.
As I said in my interview- I’ll be fighting for my constituents and the West Midlands to get the best deal possible and no less than what we deserve."
