Recently, I signed a cross-party letter calling on the Government to deliver an 18-week target for dementia diagnosis. I have met a number of constituents through my surgeries who spoke to me about the importance of delivering the 18 week target.
Too many people living with dementia are waiting far too long for a diagnosis. That delay can mean families are left without the support, information and treatment they need at the earliest opportunity.
With new treatments emerging, timely and accurate diagnosis is more important than ever. The Government’s Modern Service Framework for Dementia and Frailty provides a clear opportunity to set an ambitious national standard and improve diagnosis pathways across the NHS.
I will continue to press for better dementia services and for local families to get the support they deserve.
I’m proud to have joined colleagues from across Parliament in calling for action. An 18-week dementia diagnosis target should be delivered and built into NHS planning.
