This morning I had the pleasure of visiting the Solihull and District Group of the MS Society, where I spent time learning more about the incredible support they provide to people living with multiple sclerosis in our community.
We discussed the challenges many people with MS face, particularly around how PIP assessments don’t always reflect the reality of fluctuating conditions.
That’s why I have called for a streamlined approach for PiP assessments for neurological diseases to reduce the number of reassessments required.
The group runs a fantastic excerise morning, led by a specialist neuro physiotherapist. I was particularly impressed to see how inclusive these sessions are, with separate classes tailored for those with greater mobility and for wheelchair users, ensuring everyone can take part in a way that works for them.
Beyond this, the group continues to build a strong sense of community, including their new coffee mornings at the Olton Tavern, an excellent opportunity for people to connect and support one another.
The next one is on Wednesday 1st April, and I’d encourage anyone interested to come along.
This year also marks the group’s 10th anniversary, wonderful milestone and a testament to the dedication of everyone involved.
Thank you to everyone who welcomed me this morning and for the vital work you do supporting people living with MS across Solihull and the surrounding area.
