I have written to the Prime Minister to demand urgent clarity on his plans for Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.
Children, parents and teachers have endured lengthy delays, received minimal detail surrounding the delivery of the Government’s reforms and now face further uncertainty with the appointment of a new Education Secretary.
The Prime Minister must not push SEND down his list of priorities and confirm whether his government intends to abide by the principles he set out in a December 2025 interview with Politics Home.
I have asked the Prime Minister to set out:
- Will he review the SEND reforms before any legislation is introduced in Parliament?
- Will he make any changes to the reforms outlined in the SEND White Paper?
- Will he preserve parents’ existing right to appeal decisions relating to SEND provision?
- Will he retain the tiered support system proposed in the White Paper?
- Will he ensure that clarifying eligibility criteria for SEND support becomes an immediate priority for the Education Secretary
- Will EHCPs remain part of the SEND system in any form?
