Last week, I was pleased to join Warwick University’s Leadership for Educational Transformation cohort to share my experience and knowledge on the importance of education in the rebuilding of Ukraine.
Sadly the discussion had to be moved online because of the weather!
I was invited by Bo Kelestyn, an Associate Professor at the University of Warwick and a now local resident.
Bo went on to start the Leadership for Educational Transformation programme, the first and only Master’s programme focused on rebuilding education in Ukraine alongside a leadership programme supporting Ukrainian veterans into public service and politics.
It was a real privilege to speak with this year’s cohort during their return to the University of Warwick.
Our conversation covered some vital shared challenges: the need for modern, resilient infrastructure and what Ukraine can learn from the UK’s experience; how we better value, motivate and support teachers in the face of workload and pay pressures; and the ongoing tensions between public and private education, including access, cost and government support.
Education will be central to Ukraine’s recovery, just as it is to opportunity and growth here at home. I’m grateful for the chance to exchange ideas with such committed educators and leaders, and proud that work with global impact is being led right here in our region.
I’m extremely proud to support the Ukrainian community both here in the United Kingdom and back in Ukraine.
Slava Ukraini!
