Recently in Parliament, I asked the Chief Secretary to the Treasury a simple but crucial question: Will the Government finally be clear as to how much funding to Midlands Rail Hub will be receiving?
The previous Conservative Government committed to £1.75 billion in funding through Network North to deliver the project under the leadership of Andy Street. This is something the current Government has refused to commit to.
This announcement was lauded by Labour MPs and the Labour Mayor of the West Midlands - except there is one problem. Labour have cut the commitment to the project with no new money. So why were Labour MPs and the Labour Mayor celebrating the people of the West Midlands being shortchanged?
