Letter to the Chief Secretary to the Treasury

.

Following my question to the Chief Secretary to the Treasury I have written to him to ask specifically how much funding will be given to the Midlands Rail Hub.

The previous Conservative Government committed to £1.75 billion in funding through Network North to deliver the project under the leadership of Andy Street.

This is something the current Government has refused to commit to. The Midlands Rail Hub isn't just a transport project — It is an investment in our future.

I asked the Chief Secretary 👇

1. Can you confirm whether this Government are fully committed to investing the necessary £1.75 billion for the Midlands Rail Hub, as outlined in October 2023 by the then Chancellor of the Exchequer?

2. If not, how much money are HM Treasury willing to fund to implement to this vital project, building on

the £123 million released last February (under the previous Government) to design the first phase?

3. If HM Treasury support the full implementation of the Midlands Rail Hub, can you indicate a specific

timescale for the project to be completed?

4. In reference to my WPQ (UNI 59467), can you confirm what ‘progression’ has been made and what

funding will be used to support the West Midlands specifically?

5. Does the Government have an assessment as to the economic value of the Midlands Rail Hub in terms

of its impact on jobs/economic growth in the region and the potential Gross Value Added?

The people of the West Midlands deserve answers.
