The UK has a proud tradition of developing and exporting some of the finest cars around the world. Equally, the motor vehicle industry is a key part of our economy. The manufacture of motor vehicles and parts contributed £13.1 billion to the economy, a 0.6% of the UK’s total output.
Saqib commented "That is why I have written to the Secretary of State for Business and Trade to request a meeting with him to discuss the impacts Donald Trump’s tariffs on car imports to the United States will have on the West Midlands.
The West Midlands is the home of British motor vehicle industry, with the iconic Jaguar Land Rover being based in Meriden and Solihull East. In the last quarter alone, the company exported 38,000 vehicles, mainly Range Rover and Range Rover Sport from its British factories to the US.
Jaguar Land Rover is a major employer in Meriden and Solihull East and people both in my constituency and across wider the West Midlands deserve to be kept informed on the impact this development will have on their livelihoods."
