This week Saqib wrote to Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council on behalf of the Friends of Berkswell Windmill regarding the development on Hob Lane which has implications for the Grade II* listed Berkswell windmill.
Saqib commented "I know that the three Councillors for Meriden Ward, Heather Delaney, Tony Dicicco and Andrew Burrow have also expressed their concerns about this development and support for the Windmill and the need to protect this vital piece of local heritage. I pay tribute to their hard work on this issue.
Historic England has raised concerns that the proposed development. This historic structure is an important cultural asset that contributes significantly to the character and heritage of the local community. As such, careful consideration of the impact on this monument must remain a priority in line with national policy guidance.
The National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) places great emphasis on the protection and enhancement of historic environments, highlighting the importance of conserving heritage assets for current and future generations. This is something I agree with entirely and throughout my time as a Member of Parliament I have championed the vital need to protect our heritage and the Berkswell Windmill is no exception.
I hope that the planning committee gives due regard to Historic England’s observations and the provisions of the NPPF as this application progresses."
