It was a privilege to speak on behalf of the Opposition today in a debate on access to education and training for young adult carers.
Young carers take on extraordinary responsibilities at a young age, often balancing education with caring for loved ones. They deserve not only recognition, but real, practical support to ensure they are not held back from reaching their full potential.
I have had the privilege of meeting some truly inspiring young carers from across Meriden and Solihull East through my surgeries. Their resilience, maturity, and determination are remarkable. Despite the challenges they face, they continue to show ambition for their futures and a deep sense of responsibility to their families.
We must ensure that young carers are properly supported to access education, training, and opportunity, not just in principle, but in practice. That means removing barriers, providing targeted support, and recognising the unique pressures they face.
I will continue to champion their voices in Parliament and work to ensure they get the support they deserve.
